Panjihua 700-Vehicle Large Order Sparks Bidding Frenzy

On December 5, during the 2025 Hydrogen Industry Chain Ecological Conference and Panzhihua City Hydrogen Industry Investment Promotion Conference, Panzhihua Municipal Party Secretary Wu Qungang made an on-site "call" during the tea break. Addressing over 230 representatives from hydrogen energy enterprises and industry experts, he extended a procurement invitation for 700 hydrogen-powered buses, instantly turning the tea break into a "bidding" session. Five companies immediately expressed interest and confirmed arrangements for follow-up discussions.
According to Chen Xi, Chairman of Panzhihua Urban Construction and Transportation (Group) Co., Ltd., the city currently has 10 hydrogen-powered buses in operation. The procurement will be carried out in phases: 36 vehicles are urgently needed in the short term, and over 110 vehicles are planned to be replaced in 2026, gradually achieving a comprehensive upgrade of the city’s new energy public transportation. Behind this large order is Panzhihua’s systematic plan to build a demonstration city for the hydrogen energy industry. Three lists released simultaneously—"Hydrogen Industry Chain Supply and Demand, Investment Opportunities, and Industrial Policies"—reveal that the local government has established a ¥3 billion green and low-carbon advantage industry fund and a ¥20 million hydrogen energy industry development fund. Subsidies of up to ¥5 million are provided for hydrogen refueling station construction, and hydrogen-powered vehicles are exempt from highway tolls, forming a comprehensive policy support system. Notably, the nation’s first commercial "photolysis of water" hydrogen production project and the first civilian liquid hydrogen refueling station have been put into operation simultaneously in Panzhihua, strengthening the industrial chain foundation for promoting hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Additionally, Panzhihua recently completed the procurement of another batch of hydrogen-powered vehicles: 30 units of 49T hydrogen fuel cell traction trucks for the Digital Intelligent Transportation and Logistics Industrial Park project. The bid was won by Dongfang Electric Hydrogen Energy (Panzhihua) Co., Ltd. for ¥35.4 million, with the results finalized in May 2025, further advancing the application of hydrogen energy in the logistics sector.
