PEM electrolyzers, fully known as Proton Exchange Membrane electrolyzers, are hydrogen production devices that utilize electrochemical reactions to split water (H₂O) into hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂). Named after their proton exchange membrane, this specialized membrane allows protons (H⁺) to pass through while blocking direct electron transfer.

The solid proton exchange membrane electrolyte features low gas permeability, effectively isolating produced hydrogen and oxygen while enabling rapid proton transfer. With high membrane conductivity, these electrolyzers operate at high current densities (typically exceeding 10,000 A/m²). Their design supports stable operation across a broad 20%-120% power input range, directly producing high-pressure hydrogen at 3.5MPa. Capable of minute-level startup/shutdown and second-level load adjustment, they are ideally suited for integration with intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
